Final Fantasy III: Not Designed by MBA's

Three young men discover a lovely hilled area near the coast and not too far from the forest to the east. They happen upon the hill and decide to found a town there, in the idyllic setting. Their names are Walter, Eric, and Sam.

Walter: Well, I think I'd like to open up my weapon shop on the west side of the hill to enjoy the breeze.
Eric: Well, I'd want to have an ocean view, so I'll open up my magic shop at the top of the hill.
Sam: Well, I think Ill open my armor shop on the east side of the hill so that I can watch the sunrise every morning. Also, there are Chocobos on that side of the hill, which will allow me to take easy vacations.
Walter: What if someone wants to buy weapons, armor and magic in a convenient way?
Sam: Well, I guess they'd have to walk around the hill to get to each one.
Walter: But what if a competitor were to open a place in our town in which they were able to shop for all three items at once? It would seem that in our monster - infested world, that some people might need all 3.
Eric: I know! We can create arbitrary barriers around the town so that no one is able to walk more than a few feet without hitting a tree or invisible space.
Walter: How do we pull that off?
Eric: Plastics!

Once again, my education drains all the life out of everything. It is striking that for the purposes of design, no stores in FF III are near each other. They are all spaced nicely throughout the town. This is a troubling aspect of the series that my MBA brain cannot ignore. Presumably, all of the stores are for "adventurers". So why space them out so much? Can we assume the three tried to consolidate and build one large store, and were rebuffed when armor - buying purists didn't want swords? Wouldn't there be an "adventurers district" where one could purchase such things? And if so, were are the whorehouses? Towns only seem to have a few weapon shops, an inn, and one guy's house. The economy's mighty limited in this regard. If the only stores in one's town sold guns, wouldn't the town end up having a lot of shootings? Not that guns cause crime, but in FFIII there are no farmers, so I'm left to assume that citizens survive on hunting and peoplemeat. Where's the market diversification? Where's the finance and banking industry (not that they're EVER needed for a peaceful and happy society)? More importantly, why do all these wasps that keep attacking me carry identical amounts of gold? They're not that kind of WASPS!
